I'm not currently taking on freelance UX work, but I am open to a short list of engagements that fit alongside the day job at WSA.
Talks, panels, and workshops on design leadership, building and scaling design teams, design systems, and the messy reality of applied AI in product work. I've spoken at events across Europe and am happy to travel for the right audience. Topics I've covered recently: leading design through reorgs, the case against the "design-driven" company, what AI actually changes in a product designer's day-to-day.
One-off creative direction for product launches, brand work, or short, focused engagements where a senior pair of eyes is needed. Things I tend to be useful for: turning a half-formed brand into something coherent, untangling product UI that's been over-iterated into incoherence, art-directing a film, photography shoot, or campaign that needs to feel intentional rather than committee-led.
I mentor designers (mostly mid-level moving toward senior or leadership) through ADPList — interview prep, design leadership, career transitions. ADPList is free; book directly through the link.
Drop me a line at tomkilehartshorn@gmail.com with what you have in mind. Short emails are fine — a sentence on the engagement, a sentence on timing, a sentence on budget if it applies. I reply within a few days.
